Chiropractic & Allied Health is pleased to offer an Acupuncture service at our Seven Hills clinic.

The origins of acupuncture can be traced back at least 2000 years, making it one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world.

Today, acupuncture is an effective natural and increasingly popular form of healthcare .It is being used by people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds.

Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to health to understand normal function and disease process. Acupuncture is a key component of traditional Chinese medicine.

How does acupuncture work?

Acupuncture has his roots in traditional Chinese medicine and is founded on the belief that energy flows through your body along pathways called meridians. When that flow is blocked or obstructed your health and well-being are affected. In acupuncture, fine, sterile needles are inserted into your skin to unblock the obstructed pathways and restore energy flow, bringing your mind and body back into balance.

In Western medicine, acupuncture is explained a little differently. Clinical research indicates that stimulating acupuncture points on the body with noodles and other forms of acupressure causes nerve cells and parts of the brain to respond physically which my in turn improve pain, fatigue, nausea and other symptoms.

Acupuncture is beneficial in achieving therapeutic outcomes to assist in the alleviation, control and or management of pain and dysfunction. While acupuncture is associated with needles, acupuncture as a treatment option involves more than just the use of needles. Scientific trials around the world have found that when acupuncture is performed by skilled practitioner it is a safe and useful treatment for many different disorders.

The British National Health Service carried out systematic reviews of the evidence for the use of acupuncture to treat or manage a range of disorders. They found that there was evidence that acupuncture is effective to treat dental pain, jaw pain and to control nausea after operations and chemotherapy treatment.

Our practitioners are highly trained in the use of acupuncture. Different acupuncture techniques are used for treating different conditions and your practitioner will determine which approach is best for your presenting condition.

As a natural form of healing, acupuncture has the following benefits :

– provides drug free pain relief

–  effectively treats a wide range of acute and chronic ailments

–  provides a holistic approach to the treatment of disease and illness.

Are there any risks?

Acupuncture is generally very safe. Some people experience some discomfort and have some mild bruising at the site of the needle, but serious side effects are rare and have been reported in less than one in 10,000 treatments. Only sterile, single use, disposable needles are used.
