Bite, chew, and talk without pain or clicking.

Understanding TMJ Dysfunction

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to your skull and plays a crucial role in speaking, eating, and facial expressions. Dysfunction in this joint can cause pain, clicking, restricted jaw movement, and headaches. TMJ problems often develop from teeth grinding (bruxism), jaw clenching, whiplash injuries, dental work, or prolonged stress.

Over time, unresolved TMJ dysfunction can lead to chronic pain syndromes affecting your head, neck, and shoulders.

Common Symptoms

  • Clicking, popping, or grinding sounds when moving the jaw
  • Difficulty fully opening or closing the mouth
  • Jaw locking
  • Facial pain or tenderness around the cheeks, jawline, or temples
  • Headaches, especially around the temples
  • Neck and upper back tension

How We Help

Effective TMJ care involves a holistic understanding of both the jaw and its surrounding musculoskeletal system. Our approach often includes:

  • Gentle adjustments of the jaw and cervical spine
  • Soft tissue techniques targeting tight facial and jaw muscles
  • Specific stretching and strengthening exercises for jaw stability
  • Relaxation strategies to reduce clenching and grinding
  • Ergonomic advice for sleeping, working, and chewing habits

By improving jaw mechanics and relieving muscle stress, we help you move, speak, and smile comfortably again.
